The agreement for using 1stHour.

The agreement

Using 1stHour means accepting these terms. If a ward does not accept them, it should not use 1stHour. The privacy policy is part of this agreement and describes how information is handled.

Who may use 1stHour

1stHour is intended for members of a ward bishopric and the people a bishopric gives access to, such as a clerk, an executive secretary or a bulletin editor. Accounts are for adults serving in those roles.

An account belongs to one person. Sharing a sign-in is not permitted, because the record of who changed what depends on accounts being individual. Signing in works by a link sent to an email address, so keeping that mailbox secure is what keeps the account secure.

What it costs

Nothing. 1stHour is free for wards, with no advertising and no sale of information. If that ever needs to change, wards using it will be told before it does, and this page will say so.

What a ward is responsible for

• What goes in. A bishopric decides which names, notes and details it records about ward members, and is responsible for handling them appropriately.
• Confidential matters stay out. 1stHour records that an interview is scheduled. It is not a place for what is discussed in one, and should not be used as one.
• Who has access. A ward is responsible for granting access only to people currently serving, and for removing it when a calling ends.
• What is published. Anything put on the ward's public page can be seen by anyone with the link. A ward decides what belongs there.

The public page

Each ward gets a page the congregation can open without signing in, showing the program, the announcements and the contact details the ward chooses to publish. It is public. A link to it can be shared by anyone who has it, so it should be treated as visible to the world.

Connecting Google Calendar

Connecting a Google Calendar is optional. 1stHour reads busy times so it does not offer an interview when the interviewer is booked, and writes the interviews it created so they appear on that calendar and come off it when cancelled. It does not change events it did not create. The privacy policy lists every scope requested and what each is for. A connection can be withdrawn at any time, in 1stHour or from Google account permissions.

Google is not a party to this agreement and does not endorse 1stHour.

Acceptable use

1stHour may not be used to:

• store information a person has asked a bishopric to keep confidential;
• reach, or attempt to reach, another ward's records;
• upload material that is unlawful, or that infringes someone's rights;
• send unsolicited commercial messages to ward members;
• probe, scrape or overload the service, or work around its limits.

Availability and warranties

1stHour is provided as it is and as available, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. This is the same bargain an open source licence makes: free to use, and no promise that it works.

There is no uptime guarantee and no support commitment. Features can change or be withdrawn. A ward should keep whatever separate record its own responsibilities require, and should not rely on 1stHour as the only copy of anything that matters.

Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, the operator of 1stHour is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, arising from the use of or inability to use 1stHour. Because 1stHour is provided free of charge, total liability for all claims taken together is limited to one United States dollar (US$1).

No Church endorsement

1stHour is an independent tool. It is not an official product of, nor endorsed by, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and it is not connected to any Church system or membership record. Nothing stored in it is an official Church record, and it does not replace any record a ward is required to keep.

Ending it

A ward can stop using 1stHour at any time and ask for its data to be deleted, as the privacy policy describes. Access can be suspended or ended where these terms are broken, or where continuing would put other wards' data at risk.

Changes to these terms

These terms can change. The effective date at the top changes when they do, and a change that materially affects a ward will be notified to the wards using 1stHour before it takes effect.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules.
