Plan your organization's program

A fireside, Great to Be Eight, any program your organization runs.

Where
Programs

Your organization can plan its own programs in 1stHour: Primary's Great to Be Eight, a Young Women fireside, a Relief Society evening. A program works like a Sunday's: the same blocks, the same conducting script with Conduct, the same folded program to print. It is your organization's to publish.

A program has its own day and time. Several can share a day, and none of them changes that day's sacrament meeting.

Programs are off until the bishopric turns them on for your organization, on the Programs card under Settings, Organization tools. Your Rhythms tab has a card of its own. See turning it on or off.

1. Plan a program

ProgramsPlan a program

  1. Open Programs and tap Plan a program.
  2. Under Program name, type its name, such as Great to Be Eight.
  3. If your organization has its own templates, choose one under Start from. Leave it on The plain program to start fresh.
  4. Enter Where, Which day and the Time. Tap Where to pick one of your ward's saved places, or type any other.
  5. Tap Plan it.

The plain program opens with a welcome and the opening and closing hymns and prayers. One planned from a template opens with that template's parts. Planning it sends nothing to anyone.

If you hold more than one organization, choose whose it is under Whose program is it? first. The bishopric plans one from Upcoming, with Plan an organization’s program…, for an organization whose Programs are on. Nobody plans one for an organization whose Programs are off, the bishopric included: turn them on first.

2. Fill in the program

The program screen is the one a Sunday uses. On it you can:

  • change its name, its time and where it's held, under Program details;
  • choose the hymns and who prays, and set who presides, who conducts and the music;
  • add blocks with Add a block: Speakers & music for talks (offered while the program has no speakers block), then + Add a speaker slot on it for each one. Solo speaker adds one talk on its own, and Musical number adds a piece of music with who performs it, as many times as you need. Welcome to the ward, Welcome to organizations and Intermission are ready-made, and Blank block… starts an empty one you can add fields to;
  • name each speaker from the ward list, or type a guest's name;
  • tap any block to change what is read at it. Whoever conducts your meeting reads your words.

Add a block also lists the bishopric's saved blocks and your organization's own (see your templates and saved blocks).

Speaking or praying in a program isn't added to anyone's record in People: their last talk, last prayer and who is Due only count sacrament meeting. A program has no place for the ward's announcements: those are read on Sunday.

3. Publish it

When it's ready, tap Publish. Your organization publishes its own programs; you don't need the bishopric. Unpublish takes it down again.

Published, you can still change it. The printed program and the link pick up saved changes.

Publishing opens the folded program to print, with the Folded program button. It sends nothing to anyone.

4. Give the ward a link, or not

Each program chooses whether people get a link to it, with the Digital program switch.

Off
The program is printed, and seen in 1stHour by your organization and the bishopric. Nobody else can open it.
On
Once it's published, anyone with the link opens the program on their phone, without signing in. Copy the link and Share the link send it; the printed program carries a QR code to it.

Heads up

With the switch on and the program published, everything that prints on it is public to anyone with the link: its name, place, time and the names on it.

The link opens this program only. It never shows the ward's announcements, contacts or the Sunday program. Turn the switch off, or unpublish, and the link stops opening it.

5. Who can see it

  • Your organization's leaders who sign in as its Org editor, and the Ward mission leader for Ward Mission's, see and change their own organization's programs. Another organization's never reach their phone.
  • The bishopric and the clerk see every organization's programs, on Upcoming beside the Sundays and baptisms, and can change and publish any of them. That includes an organization whose programs are turned off: its card says Programs off. They also see every organization's templates and saved blocks, under Settings → Sacrament meeting.
  • The musical director and the bulletin editor never see them.

Only the bishopric can move a program to another organization, under Whose program on the program. They choose an organization whose Programs are on, or Bishopric to keep it as their own. That organization's leaders then see it, and the one it was moved from no longer does. A program an event planned under Rhythms moves with its event instead: hand the event to the other organization, and the program goes with it. The clerk and the organizations can't move one on its own.

See who can see what.

6. Turning programs on or off

SettingsYour wardOrganization tools

The bishopric turns programs on or off for each organization, on the Programs card. The card shows only the organizations that have programs.

  1. To turn them on, tap Add an organization and choose one. It saves and shows on the card.
  2. To turn them off, tap the organization's name on the card. The tap saves.

The Rhythms card is separate, so an organization can have either one, or both.

Off
The organization's leaders no longer see Plan a program or its programs, and the link to a published program stops opening, print view included. The bishopric and the clerk still see and change them, but nobody plans a new one for that organization. Nothing is deleted or unpublished.
On again
Everything is back as it was, and a published program with Digital program on opens from its link again.

Baptisms aren't affected. Primary's and Ward Mission's leaders keep planning their baptisms on Programs either way. A leader with no baptisms and programs turned off has no Programs tab.

7. Remove a program

At the foot of the program, Remove this program asks first.

Heads up

Remove it takes the program away for good, and its link stops working. This can't be undone.

8. Your templates and saved blocks

ProgramsProgram templates

Once the bishopric turns on your organization's Programs, your organization keeps its own program templates and saved blocks. A template is the shape a program starts from, such as the parts of your yearly Great to Be Eight.

  1. Open Programs and tap Program templates.
  2. Tap New template, type its name, and tap Create. It starts from the plain program.
  3. Add parts with Add a standing block, move them, or tap one to change its wording.

Your next program can start from it under Start from. Changing a program template never changes programs already planned. (Sunday templates work differently: see how a template change reaches your Sundays.)

The bishopric can make one for your organization too. In Settings → Sacrament meeting → Meeting templates, they tap New template and choose your organization under Whose template is it?. It's a program template, and it shows on your Program templates like one you made. Left on The bishopric, What is it for? chooses A Sunday or A program: a program template of the bishopric's own, for a program it holds itself.

To keep a block for reuse, open it on your program and tap Save for reuse. It goes to your organization's Saved blocks, at the foot of Program templates, and shows under Add a block on your programs and templates.

The bishopric's own saved blocks show there too, under From the bishopric. You can add them to your programs, but only the bishopric changes them. Sunday templates and the Baptism program stay the bishopric's.

Your organization's templates and blocks are yours alone: another organization never sees them. If the bishopric turns your Programs off, they're kept and come back when it's turned on again.

9. A program that comes every year

If your organization's program comes round every year, keep it as a rhythm and let the rhythm plan it. On the event's page under Rhythms, the Program card chooses your template once, and Plan this year’s program makes this year's on the event's own day, time and place. The next year, Start from last year’s program can begin from last year's instead. It's off unless you turn it on, and nobody in last year's is copied.

A program planned this way shows on Programs like any other. Move the event to another day and the program moves with it, with the same link. Hand the event to another organization and the program becomes theirs, as long as their Programs are on. You need both your Rhythms and your Programs turned on. See a program for the event.

The bishopric can do the same for an event of its own, with a program template of its own. That program is the bishopric's: no organization's leaders see it.
