Your ward list

One list of names, and who has waited longest.

Where
People
Who
Bishopric and ward clerk
Time
10 min

The ward list (People) is the one list you choose from when you fill a speaker slot, a prayer, a contact, business, an assignment or the minutes. So a name is typed once, and never retyped.

It also remembers when each person last spoke, which is how the speaker picker knows who has waited longest. You can build it all at once from a spreadsheet, or a name at a time as you plan. The bishopric and the ward clerk can open it. Nothing here emails or messages anyone.

1. Add someone

  1. Tap Add someone (at the bottom of the screen on a phone, beside the title on a computer).
  2. Type the Name. That's the only thing you need.
  3. If you like, choose Brother or Sister. It decides "Bro." or "Sis." on the program.
  4. Tap + Youth for a young man or young woman. Youth slots on a Sunday offer only youth, and other speaker slots offer only adults.
  5. Press Add to the ward. Their card opens.

Searching first? When the search doesn't find them, tap Add “…” to the ward under the list. The form opens with the name you typed, ready for Brother or Sister.

If someone in People already has that name (titles and capitals aside), 1stHour says so and adds no one. Open their card instead, or add something that tells them apart, such as a middle initial. Someone under Moved out doesn't count.

You can also add people as you plan. When you type a name in a speaker slot that isn't in People, tap + Add "…" to the ward list: they join People and take their turn in the queue. Use this for someone in your ward. On a youth speaker's slot it reads + Add "…" to the ward list as a youth, and they join People as a youth.

For a stake speaker, a visitor or a family member from out of town, use + Someone outside the ward in the speaker slot instead. The name goes on that Sunday only and isn't added to People.

2. Import a list

Already have the list in a spreadsheet, an LCR export, or the Member List PDF that LCR prints? On People, tap the arrow beside Add someone, then Import a list. Nothing is added until the last step.

LCR's monthly Members Moved Out and Members Moved In reports have their own row on that menu, Move members in or out: see move members in or out.

  1. Paste the list under Paste a list and press Read the list. Or tap Or choose a file and pick a spreadsheet saved as CSV or TSV (comma- or tab-separated), a text file, or LCR's Member List PDF (more on that below). Not sure how to lay it out? Tap Download an example list, open it in a spreadsheet, and replace its made-up people with your own.

  2. Check the first line: it must be the column names. For example:

    Name,Gender,Youth,Last spoke,Last talk topic
    Anya Vance,F,no,3/12/2024,Quiet service

  3. Under What each column is, 1stHour guesses what each column holds. Check each guess and change any that are wrong. Choose Skip for a column you don't need.

  4. If names are written "Last, First", the box that turns them round is ticked for you. Leave it ticked.

  5. Read the preview. It says how many are new, to update, already in People, twice in the list, or can't be read, and what happens to each row. A new person is marked New, followed by what they bring in, such as their last prayer or a note. Untick any row you want to leave out.

  6. If a row was read wrong, tap Edit beside it. Change its name, Brother or Sister, Youth, dates, talk topic, reluctant or note, then tap Save this row. The preview checks the row again and marks it Edited. A row that can't be read shows in red, with what could be read of it, and is fixed the same way: give it what it lacked, such as a date written so it reads.

If the row is someone already in People under another name (Bob Smith on the list, Robert Smith in People), type their name under Someone already in People in the same sheet and pick them. The row then updates them, and the preview says who, such as Updates Bro. Robert Smith: last spoke June 1, 2025. Tap Unlink to make it a row of its own again.

  7. Press Add … new records. With people to update, it reads Add … new records, update … records (or Update … records when nobody is new). People then says what it did, such as "Added 3 to People. Updated 2."

Changing a column under What each column is, or the "Last, First" box, reads the list again from the start, so do that before you edit rows.

What each column can be:

Name
The name that's added. An LCR Preferred Name column is picked as the name for you.
Gender and Youth (yes / no)
Saved on each new person.
Last spoke (date) and Last prayed (date)
Added to their talks and prayers, so the speaker picker knows who has waited longest. Dates can be written 3/12/2024, 3/12/24, 2024-03-12, 12 Mar 2024 or Mar 12, 2024. A month alone (Mar 2024) counts as the first of that month. "Never", "n/a" or a dash means no date.
Last talk topic
What the talk in the last-spoke column was about, kept with that date on their card. It needs a last-spoke date in the same row: a topic with no date is left out.
Reluctant to speak (yes / no)
Marks them reluctant.
Note (kept on their card)
Saved as the note under their name. For someone already in People, it's added after their own note, unless their note already says it. 1stHour doesn't act on what a note says. If a note says someone moved or would rather not pray, open their card and change it yourself.
Age (for youth only, not saved) and Birth date (for youth only, not saved)
Never saved. They only work out who is a youth: anyone aged 8 to 17. If your list has a Youth column, you don't need them.

What to expect:

  • Someone already in People is updated, not added again. A date their talks or prayers don't have yet is added, and a "yes" under reluctant marks them reluctant. Their name, gender and youth stay as they are, and a "no" never takes reluctant off.
  • A date in a month they already have a talk or prayer in isn't added again, so "Jan 2025" doesn't add a second talk beside the one on January 12.
  • A topic is added to a talk that has none yet. A talk that already has a topic keeps it.
  • A row that adds nothing new is left alone, so importing the same list twice changes nothing the second time.
  • A date that can't be read, or is after today, keeps its whole row out, and the preview says why. Tap Edit on the row to fix it, fix it in the list and read it again, or skip that column.
  • For someone already in People, an edit changes only what the row fills in. Their name in People, gender and youth stay as they are: change those on their card.
  • A row linked to someone never renames them. When the row's name is a form of theirs, such as Bob for Robert, it's remembered, so the next list finds them under that name on its own.

From LCR's Member List PDF

In LCR, open the ward's Member List and print it, or save it as a PDF. In 1stHour, tap Or choose a file and pick that PDF. The file is read on your phone or computer and isn't uploaded.

  • Only the name, gender, age and birth date are read. Phone numbers, emails and anything else on the list are left out, and age and birth date are used only to work out who is a youth.
  • A name LCR wraps onto two lines, or carries over to the next page, is read as one name.
  • If LCR's count at the end of the list doesn't match the rows read, 1stHour says so. Check the preview for anyone missing.
  • The rest works as for any list: check the columns and the preview, then press Add … new records.

A list by Sunday: who said the prayers

Some wards keep their prayers as a schedule, one row per Sunday:

Date,Opening,Note,Closing,Note
1/5/2025,Anya Vance,,Wes Kettleworth,
1/12/2025,Cal Ashby,moved,Mira Fenwick,

Import it the same way. 1stHour reads it like this:

  • Sunday (a list by Sunday) is the date column. Who prayed that Sunday is each column of names, as many as you have. With these two chosen, you don't need a Name column.
  • The preview shows one row per person, with how many prayers they had and the last one. Each of those Sundays is added to their prayers. Edit on someone with more than one shows their prayers but doesn't change them.
  • A Sunday after today is left out, since nobody has prayed on it yet. The summary says how many.
  • A blank cell or a "?" means nobody was down to pray.
  • A Note column belongs to the names to its left. The note is kept on that person's card with its Sunday, such as "1/12/2025: moved". The prayer still counts.

3. The list

The chips above the list are filters, each with a count. The list opens on Everyone.

Everyone
Everyone in the ward, A to Z. People who have moved out aren't in it.
Due
People 1stHour suggests for a talk, because they have never spoken or haven't spoken in 18 months. It's a counting rule, nothing more. It lists them longest wait first. Your ward can count prayers or anything it tracks too, each with its own time: see who is Due. When your ward counts several things, Due for narrows it to one of them; picking another filter puts it back to Due for anything.
Paths
Every path under way, grouped by path, the welcomes first (see every open path). Only the bishopric sees paths other than the welcome; the ward clerk sees the welcomes.
Reluctant and Moved out
People you've marked that way (see below).

Under the filters, Youth and adults narrows whichever filter you're on to Youth only or Adults only, by the Youth mark on each person's card. Every count, and the line above the list, then counts only that group. It stays as you move between filters.

Search the ward finds a name. Arriving from View person details elsewhere (a youth's page, a picked speaker's card) fills it with that person's name, so their card is the whole list; clear it to see everyone. A back arrow at the top then takes you back to where you came from. Under the filters, on the right, Sort: puts the list A to Z by First name or Last name, or the longest wait first by last talk, last prayer, or anything else you track. Sorted by Last name, each name reads last name first, with Brother or Sister after the comma (Vance, Sis. Anya). Each phone or computer remembers which name you sort by. On Due, its menus sit on the same line, on the left. A phone and a wide screen show them the same way.

Each row may have a label: the date of a Sunday they're on, New while a welcome is under way for them, Due, Hold for someone reluctant to speak, Snoozed, or Moved out. On a phone, tap a row to open their card under it. On a wide screen the list is a table with the card beside it.

4. A person's card

Name and details

  • Brother or Sister: tap to set, tap again to clear.
  • + Youth: tap to switch it on or off. It doesn't switch off by itself when someone turns 18, so switch it off here.
  • Youth appointments: on a youth's card, when your ward uses Appointments. It says where their year stands and who their counselor is. Tap it to open their page on the Youth tab. See Youth appointments.
  • Edit name, beside their name: see rename once, everywhere.

Notes

  • Add a note: for you, never printed. It saves as you type.

Talks, prayers and other dates

Under Last time, there's a row for Talks, Prayers and each thing your ward tracks, with the last date and how many are logged.

  • Tap + to log a date. It starts on the most recent Sunday; change it if you need to. For a talk you can also type what it was about under Topic.
  • Tap a row to see every date. Tap the × on a date to take it off.
  • Talks also says Last topic when their last talk has a topic on its Sunday. Tap the row and each date shows the topic of that talk.

Talks and prayers from a Sunday's program log themselves, and belong to that Sunday. To change one, change the program and the card follows. Only sacrament meeting logs here: speaking or praying at a baptism or at an organization's own program isn't added to anyone's card, and doesn't change their last talk, last prayer or whether they're Due.

A talk's topic fills itself in the same way. When a speaker's slot is marked Accepted, the topic typed on that slot is kept with the date. Change the topic on the Sunday and the card follows. A topic that came from a Sunday can only be changed on that Sunday.

Ask them from their card {#put-on-a-sunday time="1 min"}

Someone is Due and you want to ask them? You can do it from their card, without opening the Sunday first.

  1. Tap + on Talks or Prayers.
  2. Under the date, tap Put on a Sunday.
  3. Check what it's for: A talk, Opening prayer or Closing prayer. Prayers starts on the opening prayer.
  4. Pick a Sunday. Each one says what it has open, such as 1 adult speaker slot open or Opening prayer open.
  5. Tap Put on and the date.

A talk takes the first open youth slot for a youth, or adult slot for an adult. It's marked Asked, and Who's asking is whoever conducts that Sunday, as in the speaker picker. If only the other kind of slot is open, a slot of theirs is added. A prayer fills that Sunday's prayer with their name. A message says which Sunday; tap Open to go to it. Nothing is sent to them.

A Sunday you can't pick says why, such as Full · every talk is taken, No talks on this program on a fast Sunday, or a prayer someone already gives. The bishopric and the ward clerk see this button.

To ask before you pick a Sunday, send them a message instead:

  1. Tap + on Talks or Prayers.
  2. Tap Message them. The speaking or prayer invitation opens with their name filled in.
  3. Pick the Sunday under Date. It starts on next Sunday.
  4. For a prayer, pick Opening or Closing. It starts on Opening.
  5. Type anything else it asks for, such as a talk's Topic.
  6. Tap Share the message, or open it in a text, email or WhatsApp.

The message goes from your phone, not from 1stHour. Nothing is recorded on their card or on a Sunday. When they say yes, put them on the Sunday.

Paths

A Paths section sits under In sacrament meeting. Each open path is a row that opens it, such as "Welcome · The Weirs"; the ward clerk sees only the welcome. For the bishopric, + Start a path with him (or her, or them) starts another, and Manage paths opens Settings → Your ward → Paths. See walk alongside someone.

5. Reluctant, moved out, or deleted

At the bottom of the card:

Mark reluctant
They sort to the end of the list and of the speaker picker, marked "reluctant to speak". Willing again undoes it.
Snooze
For someone willing but away for a while. Pick 2 weeks, 1 month, 2 months, 3 months, or Pick a day, and add a few words why if you like, such as "Out of town". Press Snooze. Until that day they leave Due, aren't offered for a talk or a prayer, and aren't counted due on anything your ward tracks. On the day itself they're back in their usual place, with nothing to undo. The card says "Snoozed until" the day, with Change to pick another day and Unsnooze to bring them back now. They stay on Everyone, and you can still find them by name.
Mark moved out
They leave the Due list and the speaker picker, and keep all their history. Moved back in, at the foot of the card, undoes it, and so does Moved back on the banner at the top of their card.

Mark moved out asks first. If Callings is on, the question also names the callings they hold, such as "Their 2 callings go to Releases: Primary president, Primary teacher." Press Mark moved out to confirm, or Keep it.

Each of those callings then gets a release: a new calling opens for the seat in Callings, with their release on it. If the seat was already being filled, the release joins that calling instead. A seat already being released, or whose new person has already accepted, is left as it is. Nothing is sent to anyone. The card says how many releases started, with Open Releases.

Their name also comes off every calling in motion that names them, and the question says which, such as "Their name comes off 2 callings being filled: Sunday School teacher, ward organist." Of those, one that had settled on them goes back to names to settle on, and the question says that too. See when someone moves mid-call.

Nobody needs to tell someone who moved away, so each release is ready to read at the pulpit. It goes on the next Sunday that has a sacrament meeting, or waits in Business if none is planned.

They stay in each seat, marked Moved out under Who can sign in, until the release is read at the pulpit. See releases.

Moved back in takes back each of those releases that nobody has worked on yet, the calling it opened, and its place on ward business. A release someone has moved on stays: one already read on a Sunday that has passed, one with a conversation assigned, or one whose calling has a name raised. The card says which ones stayed. Their name doesn't go back on a calling it was taken off.

Marking someone moved out takes them off no Sunday. If they're still on a Sunday ahead, their card says which and links to it, and that Sunday marks them Moved out beside their talk or prayer. Choose someone else there, or keep them if they're still coming.

Delete
Only for a duplicate or someone added by mistake.

Heads up

Delete can't be undone. Their talks, prayers, other tracked dates and notes are deleted with them. Past programs still show their name. To keep everything, choose Mark moved out instead.

Delete asks first: press Delete again to confirm, or Keep.

If they sign in to 1stHour, Delete is refused until their sign-in is removed in Settings → Your ward → Who can sign in. The same goes for marking them moved out.

If Delete is refused for anything else, something coming up still names them. It says what to clear first:

  • a talk or prayer on a Sunday from today on
  • a calling they're named for, or one they're following up on, until it's recorded
  • a release not yet recorded
  • a position they hold in Who can sign in
  • an open assignment they own, or a repeating assignment they own
  • any rhythm they lead that isn't retired, a one-time one included

6. Rename once, everywhere

Tap Edit name beside their name. The new name replaces the old one anywhere they were picked from People: every Sunday from today on, plus contacts, business, assignments, minutes and the rest. A Sunday that has already happened keeps the names as it was held, except its speakers, which always show their name from People.

  • A published program shows the new name straight away.
  • Choosing Brother or Sister on the card works the same way: a name picked before without "Bro." or "Sis." takes it. Speakers show it too, on the Sunday, the script and the program.
  • Names typed by hand, without picking from People, stay as written.
  • A name someone else in People already has is refused.

7. Track something else

Talks and prayers are always tracked. To keep a date for anything else (a musical number, a scripture reading):

  • tap + Track something else on a card, or
  • go to Settings → Your ward → What you track on people and tap + Add something to track.

It's added for everyone in the ward. A ward can track up to eight things. To rename one, edit its name there: its dates stay.

Heads up

Remove asks first. Once removed, its dates stop showing on People. Adding the same thing again starts an empty list: the old dates don't come back.

Who is Due

On the same page, under Who is Due, choose what the Due label counts. Tick Count talks, Count prayers, or anything your ward tracks. Tick as many as you like.

Each one you tick has its own time beside it, from Every month to Every 3 years. Someone is Due when any one of them has gone longer than its time, or when they have no date for it yet. A new ward counts talks every 18 months. One thing always stays ticked.

When you count more than one thing:

  • each label says what the person is due for, such as Due: talk, prayer;
  • on Due, the Due for menu shows only the people due for one of them, and the Due count follows it; each label then names only that one, such as Due: prayer;
  • the count above the list says "due" alone, or what the Due for menu picked.

The Due list puts the longest wait first. The speaker picker still suggests speakers by their last talk. If you remove a tracker Due counts, Due stops counting it.

8. Sign-ins and People

Everyone who can sign in is also someone in People, so their name on a program and their sign-in are the same person. When you invite someone, their sign-in is linked to the person who holds the position you invited them from.

To check:

SettingsYour wardWho can sign in

Tap a position to see its sign-in, or look under Other sign-ins. Each sign-in says In People: and the name.

  • If a row says Needs someone in People, tap Link to and the name when 1stHour finds a match, or Find in People to pick them.
  • If it names the wrong person, tap Change and pick the right one. A sign-in can't be left linked to nobody.

Only the bishopric and the ward clerk see this screen. See who can sign in for inviting.

How the speaker picker uses it

When you fill a speaker slot, the picker lists who has waited longest:

  1. anyone who has never spoken
  2. then the oldest last talk first
  3. reluctant people last, marked "reluctant to speak"
  4. anyone snoozed after them, marked "snoozed until" the day they're back. They're never on Due for a talk while snoozed.

Under each name it says when they last spoke, and what the talk was about when that Sunday's program had a topic for it, such as "Last spoke Jul 2024 on “Quiet service”".

The picker opens on Due for a talk: the people your ward's Due rule for talks marks due, in that same order. If your ward doesn't count talks toward Due, the picker uses 18 months. Tap Everyone for the whole list, or Reluctant for only those marked reluctant. Each filter shows how many people it holds. Typing a name in the search box finds anyone, whatever filter is on.

A youth slot lists only youth, and other slots only adults. Type the name of someone from the other group and 1stHour asks whether to switch the slot to theirs. Moved-out people are left out, and someone already booked on another Sunday says so.

A Prayer field works the same way. Tap it while it's empty to see who has waited longest to pray, each with when they last prayed. They're marked Due when your ward counts prayers toward Due. Type any name to find anyone else.
