Plan a baptism

The baptismal service's program, and the pieces that go with it.

Where
Upcoming or Programs

A baptism in 1stHour is a program of its own, on its own day: the baptismal service. It's planned like a Sunday, with its talks, hymns and prayers, and published with its own link. The interviews, the ward announcement and the confirmation each have a place of their own, linked below.

Who plans one: the bishopric and the clerk, the Ward mission leader for Ward Mission's baptisms, and an Org editor who holds Primary for Primary's. See who can see what.

1. Plan it

  1. Open Upcoming, tap the arrow beside Add a Sunday (Plan another kind of meeting), and choose Plan a baptism…. Organization leaders open Programs and tap Plan a baptism.
  2. Under Whose baptism is it?, choose Primary or Ward Mission. You see it only when you plan for both.
  3. Type Who is being baptized: a name, or names for siblings.
  4. Choose or type Where, the Which day and the Time. The time is needed.
  5. Tap Plan it.

It opens like a Sunday, and shows on Upcoming (and on Programs for the organization). Nothing is sent to anyone.

2. Fill in the program

The program starts from your ward's Baptism program: the template named Baptism under Settings → Sacrament meeting → Meeting templates. Who performs the baptism and the confirmation are picked from the ward list, or typed. Changing that template changes the parts new baptisms start with (see shape your Sunday programs). An organization leader who wants a part added or taken out asks the bishopric.

The talks are speaker slots, the same as a Sunday's: pick each speaker from the ward list (People), or type a guest's name, and mark them Asked and Accepted (see fill in the program). A baptism's talks and declines aren't kept on anyone's record in People.

Baptism details holds who is being baptized, the place and the time. On a phone, it folds away under the program's heading.

3. Publish it

The bishopric or the clerk publishes a baptism, with Publish on it, the same as a Sunday. It gets its own link, for its date, and a folded program to print from Folded program: the baptism alone, with its QR code on the back.

Heads up

Publishing makes the program public. Anyone with the link can open it without signing in, with the names on it. Once it's published, an organization leader can read it but not change it.

Publishing sends nothing by itself. See the program your ward opens.

4. The interviews, the announcement and the confirmation

Interviews
Ask the bishopric for them from the baptism, under Interviews. See interviews for a baptism. It needs Appointments switched on.
A ward announcement
Add to the ward announcements, on the baptism, puts it on the ward's announcements. See announce a baptism to the ward.
The confirmation
Capture a Confirmation in ward business for the Sunday it happens, so it's read in sacrament meeting. See ward business.
