Guides / Getting set up
Your first day in 1stHour
Where you land when you first sign in, and what to do first, for each role.
- Time
- 5 min
Someone in your ward invited you, so 1stHour already knows your role: it decides what you see. Find yours below. Each part says where you land, what you'll find there, and the first things to do. What each role can and can't see is in who can see what.
To sign in, open the invitation and tap Accept invitation, or enter your email on the sign-in page. 1stHour emails you a code; there's no password. Trouble? See fix sign-in problems.
Bishopric
You land on Today. On a phone, a bar along the bottom holds Today, Program, Tasks (your assignments) and Appts (appointments), then More. On a computer it's a sidebar.
First things to do:
- If your ward is new, follow Let’s get your first Sunday ready on Today (see your first Sunday).
- Tap Settings & who can sign in at the foot of Today and invite the clerk and anyone else (see who can sign in).
- Turn on notifications on your phone, if you want today's appointment changes there.
To sign out, open Settings and press Sign out under your name. Help, at the bottom of Settings, opens these guides in a new tab.
Executive secretary
The executive secretary signs in as Bishopric, so everything above applies. Because the calling on his sign-in says executive secretary, he also:
- sees the bishop's appointments and the bishop's list, as the bishop does;
- sees everyone's appointments for the day on Today, under Appointments today;
- gets one morning schedule email with everyone's day (see the morning schedule email).
His first task is usually Appointments: what's waiting under To schedule.
Ward clerk
You land on Today, with the same bar and sidebar as the bishopric. You also get To record: what has happened and still needs entering in LCR. On a phone it's in More until you pin it to your bar (see choose your tabs).
First things to do:
- Open To record and see what's waiting.
- Check Settings → Your ward → Who can sign in, which you keep with the bishopric.
Some things stay with the bishopric, such as Signups and notifications (see what the clerk can't do). To sign out, open Settings and press Sign out under your name. Help, at the bottom of Settings, opens these guides in a new tab.
Bulletin editor
You land on Announcements. Your tabs are Announcements, Sundays and Contacts, then More, plus Signups if the bishopric lets you run it. On a computer the same doors are in a sidebar.
First things to do:
- Read the ward's announcements on Announcements, and add or tidy them.
- Open Sundays to choose each Sunday's Bulletin artwork, and print a program once the bishopric publishes it.
- Check the ward's contacts and links on Contacts.
To sign out, tap your initials at the top, then Sign out. Help, in the same menu, opens these guides in a new tab; on a computer it's at the foot of the sidebar. See the bulletin for the details.
Org editor
For an organization's leaders, such as a Relief Society or Primary presidency. You land on your organization's Assignments: what the bishopric has asked of your organization. Your other tabs depend on what your ward uses and what the bishopric turned on for your organization: Callings, Bulletin, Activities, Signups, Rhythms and Programs.
First things to do:
- Open Assignments and mark done what's finished, or write a note back.
- Open Bulletin to add your organization's announcements (see letting organizations post their own).
- If you have Callings, use Ask for a calling to send the bishopric a request.
To sign out, tap your initials at the top, then Sign out. Help, in the same menu, opens these guides in a new tab. On a computer both are at the foot of the sidebar.
Ward mission leader
You land on Ward Mission's Assignments, with the same tabs an organization leader gets. Programs holds Ward Mission's baptisms.
First things to do:
- Open Programs and tap Plan a baptism for the next one.
- Ask the bishopric for the interviews from the baptism's page (see interviews for a baptism).
- Where your ward has Signups on, open it to run missionary meals.
To sign out, tap your initials at the top, then Sign out. Page views is in the same menu, and so is Help, which opens these guides in a new tab.
Musical director
Your whole app is Music: the coming Sundays, one card each. There are no other tabs.
First things to do:
- Open the next Sunday's card.
- Pick the Music director and the Organist/Pianist.
- Choose each hymn, and fill in the music between the talks if the bishopric planned some.
To sign out, tap your initials at the top of the Music page, then Sign out. What’s new and Ward page, the ward's page as members see it, are in the same menu. Send feedback and Help, which opens these guides in a new tab, are at the bottom of the page.
What Today shows
Today is the bishopric's and the clerk's home. From the top:
- how many days until Sunday, and the next meeting's card: its theme, who conducts and what's still open. Open the Sunday opens the planner; the list button beside it opens the conducting script;
- Your ward’s page, the public link members open. Copy copies it, and the share button shares it;
- your appointments today, when you have some (the bishopric only). The executive secretary sees everyone's;
- under Modules, a card for each part of 1stHour your ward uses. A number on a card says how many things there need you;
- Settings & who can sign in, at the foot.
Until your first Sunday is published, Today shows only the first-Sunday guide and the Settings row (see the first Sunday guide).
Put 1stHour on your Home Screen
1stHour runs in your phone's browser; there's nothing to download from an app store. On the Home Screen, it opens like an app, straight to your home in 1stHour.
On Today, a card says Add 1stHour to your Home Screen:
- Where your browser can add it in one tap, the card shows Add to Home Screen or Install 1stHour. Tap it and confirm.
- Otherwise tap Show me how for your browser's steps. For an iPhone they're also in get notifications.
Not now puts the card away on that phone. It comes back once, two weeks later. The other roles get no card, but the same steps work from their browser's menu.
